Lawn Sprinkler Winterization & Spring Start-Up in Westchester County
Seasonal service that protects your system through the Westchester winter and brings it back online, tuned and ready, every spring.
It all starts at the main valve
Both the spring start-up and the fall shut-down begin at your main irrigation isolation valve. In spring we open it to slowly pressurize the system; in fall we close it to begin the shut-down process. We tag every valve we service, so you always know which one controls your irrigation and who to call.
Fall winterization
Water left in the lines, valves and backflow device can freeze and crack over a Westchester winter, and those repairs are far more costly than prevention. We blow out every zone with compressed air, shut down and drain the backflow, and set the controller to its off-season mode. Booking before the first hard freeze, typically late October through November, is the best protection.
Spring start-up
Once the risk of a hard freeze has passed, usually in April, we turn the water back on and pressurize the system slowly to protect the pipes. Then we run every zone and check each head for coverage. We clear away overgrown grass from around every sprinkler head, make adjustments as needed, clean nozzles, repair any damage from the winter, and program the controller for the season ahead.
Common Questions
What is the best time to winterize sprinklers in Westchester?
Before the first hard freeze. For most of the county, that falls between late October and November. The earlier you book, the more flexibility you have on dates.
Can I just drain my system myself?
Draining alone often leaves water trapped in low spots and valves. A compressed-air blow-out clears each zone properly and is the most reliable way to prevent freeze damage.
When should I book my spring start-up?
Reach out in March to reserve a spot. Start-ups generally begin in April, once overnight temperatures stay above freezing.
